Josh Elkins

Maryville College named Josh Elkins its first full-time Strength and Conditioning Coach in January 2025. His primary responsibilities are football and the new stunt program that begins varsity competition in 2025-26.

Elkins' coaching resume includes stops at Michigan (fall 2024), Virginia Tech (summer 2024) and his alma mater, ETSU (2020-24).

"I am humbled by Dr. Wu, Coach Fox and Coach King's decision and trust to bring me on board," Elkins said. "Maryville and East Tennessee are home. I grew up attending summer sports camps and attending football and basketball games at Maryville College. I'm blessed to see my journey come full circle and bring me back to this area.

"I'm eager and ready to start working, mentoring and challenging these student-athletes. There's no better job in the world than to train these young men and women for competition while also equipping them for the challenges they'll see after they walk away from competition."

Before starting his coaching career, Elkins served over a decade as an active-duty U.S. Army helicopter pilot (2009-20). Elkins is a qualified pilot-in-command in the UH-60M Blackhawk and LUH-72A Lakota helicopters and has seen service in Alabama, Louisiana, Washington D.C., Hawaii, Thailand and the Philippines. Elkins still serves today as a Major in the U.S. Army Reserves.

"We are excited to add Josh to our program," Scots head football coach Ben Fox said. "He has studied under and with some of the best strength and conditioning coaches in the country, in addition to his leadership experience defending our country.

"He is an East Tennessee native and the total package in what we wanted out of this new position. I know he will benefit our entire department."

ETSU Graduate Fully Certified
A Maryville and East Tennessee native, Elkins graduated from East Tennessee State University in 2011, earning a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, a Master of Science in 2024 in Sport Science and Coach Education, and a Certificate in Sports Nutrition in 2024.

"Having Josh as our new strength and conditioning coach is a big win for our program," MC head stunt coach Jasmin King said. "He is committed to helping stunt athletes grow and succeed, and I'm thrilled for this opportunity to collaborate with him."

Elkins is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), USA Weightlifting Level 1 Certified (USAW-L1), and American Red Cross CPR/AED certified.
