Luke Wheat

Coach Luke Wheat joined the Maryville College coaching staff just in time in 2023, as goalkeeper coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer programs.

A former Maryville College student-athlete, Wheat first arrived on campus in 2015 and graduated in 2019. During his playing career, he was a member of two conference championship teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, contributing to one of the most successful stretches in program history.

As a goalkeeper at Maryville, Wheat posted a career .833 save percentage and earned USA South Academic All-Conference honors during his first season, reflecting both his on-field performance and academic achievement.

A native of Pikeville, Kentucky, Wheat earned his bachelor’s degree in international studies with a minor in Spanish. He later completed a post-baccalaureate degree in education and currently works as a Spanish teacher at Webb School of Knoxville.

In his role with Maryville College, Wheat provides specialized goalkeeper training and development for both programs while supporting match preparation and daily training environments under head coach Pepe Fernandez.
