Director of Athletics, Andrew Wu, has announced Jesse Lawley as the new Head Women’s Golf Coach at Maryville College. “I’m thrilled to bring in a coach of Jesse Lawley’s experience and ability to lead our women’s golf program in preparation for our first season in the SAA,”. Wu said. “Coach Lawley is very familiar with the quality of the conference, recruiting in the region, and building winning programs.”
Lawley comes to the Scots after successful stints as head coach at UAB, Lipscomb, and as a graduate assistant at SAA school Berry.
"I am honored and delighted to be the second full-time head women's golf coach at Maryville College,” Lawley stated. “After spending a previous coaching tenure in Tennessee, I am so excited to be coming back to this amazing southern state!”
A former UAB Blazer student-athlete from 2013-2015, Lawley was the head coach at UAB for the last three seasons. During her tenure, she had a golfer selected to the 2024 C-USA All-Academic Team and 10 WCGA All-American Scholars. Prior to UAB, she coached for five seasons as head coach of Lipscomb University in Nashville. Lawley coached Lipscomb to top five finishes at the ASUN Golf Championship with a fourth-place finish in 2021 and a third-place finish in 2022. Throughout her five seasons, Lipscomb won three tournaments along with two individual wins.
Under her guidance, Lipscomb had four golfers named ASUN golfer of the week, one golfer named to the 2018 ASUN All-Academic Team, one golfer named to the 2018 ASUN All-Freshman Team, and coached eleven WGCA All-American Scholars. During her time there, Lipscomb recorded the 13th best team GPA in the country, had five academic All-Americans, two golfers named ASUN All-Conference team and the ASUN Freshman of the Year. Prior to her arrival at Lipscomb, Lawley spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Berry College, where she was named the SAA coach of the year.
She continued,
“A sincere thank you to Andrew Wu, the entire athletics staff, and President Dr. Bryan Coker for this incredible opportunity. I cannot wait to get on campus and begin to coach these wonderful ladies this year and the years to come. There is so much growth potential for this program, and I am honored to be chosen to lead the program into the new era of the SAA!"
Lawley was the UAB team captain in the 2014-2015 season and earned multiple C-USA Academic Awards along with being named to the UAB President’s list multiple times. She was also the recipient of the Collat School of Business Outstanding GPA in Management Award.
