John LaCava

John LaCava ’81 has worked with the Scots' soccer teams as a part-time or fulltime assistant coach since 1993.

For his service as a student-athlete and coach, LaCava was a 2020 inductee into the Maryville College Wall of Fame.

He began coaching as an Assistant Boys coach at Sevier County High School and South-Doyle High School before he became the Head Boys Coach at Farragut High School in 1991. He led the Admirals to three Regional championships, two final four appearances, and compiled a 48-13-4 record in his three-year tenure at the school.

LaCava became the full-time men's and women's assistant at MC from 1994 until 2000.

He is presently a teacher in the Maryville City School System where he is a specialist in Autism Spectrum Disorders.

LaCava was a two-sport letterman at Maryville College, where he graduated with a B.A. in Psychology in 1981. He was a two-time All-South wrestler, and he was the captain of the first varsity soccer team at MC. He received his Masters Degree in Special Education from the University of Tennessee in 1998.

He is married to Carol Carter (Class of '82), and they have two sons, Alex and Carter.
