  • Title
    Assistant Baseball Coach

Jacob Johnston serves as an assistant baseball coach and hitting coach for the Maryville College baseball program, joining the staff following the conclusion of his playing career with the Scots.

A Maryville graduate, Johnston played three seasons for the Scots from 2023–25 and was part of the most successful stretch in program history. During his time in the program, Maryville captured consecutive Collegiate Conference of the South regular-season championships, surpassed the 30-win mark in back-to-back seasons for the first time ever, and set the school record for regular-season victories. The Scots also earned an NCAA Division III Tournament berth in 2025—the program’s first since 1977—and recorded an NCAA postseason victory at the Lynchburg Regional.

Johnston appeared in 108 career games for the Scots, making his collegiate debut on February 11, 2023, against Eastern Mennonite. He enjoyed a standout 2024 season, earning All-CCS First Team honors after batting .365 with two triples, six doubles, 33 RBIs, and 39 runs scored. Johnston also drew 18 walks and stole seven bases, serving as a consistent presence near the top of the lineup and a key offensive contributor during Maryville’s championship run.

Known for his baseball IQ and approach to the game, Johnston showed early interest in coaching during his playing days and was actively involved in the program’s culture and player development. His transition from player to coach reflects Maryville’s emphasis on leadership, continuity, and developing future professionals within the game.

Johnston graduated from Maryville College following the 2025 season and continues to contribute to the Scots’ success through offensive development, daily practice planning, and mentoring student-athletes both on and off the field.
