Jenica Brown, a Knoxville native, returned to her alma mater as an assistant coach to begin the 2024 season after cementing her place as one of the program’s standout student-athletes.

Upon transferring from Walters State Community College in 2022, Brown quickly became a two-year starter in the outfield for the Scots. Known for her speed and defensive range, she emerged as a key contributor on both sides of the ball. Brown during her two years as a Scot was a 2023 All-Region Second Team selection by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. She also earned 2023 All-CCS First Team and CCS All-Tournament Team honors. She led the conference in her senior year with a program-record nine triples and helped Maryville pace the nation with 26 triples. In addition, Brown set the standard for the Maryville outfield with 68 putouts and four assists while playing errorless ball. Academically, she was named 2023 CCS Academic All-District and two-time Academic All-Conference (including one selection with Distinction). She batted .336 over her two seasons with a .438 on-base percentage and .988 fielding percentage. She finished 45-of-48 on stolen bases, including a program-record 27 steals in 2022. Brown has played a big role in Maryville’s softball resurgence. She helped the 2024 squad set program benchmarks for wins and winning percentage with a 35-13 (.729) mark that took them to a conference tournament title and all the way to the NCAA Regional championship game.

The Scots went 23-20 in 2025 but then compiled a 28-16 mark in 2026, including an 11-5 record in conference play. The 28 victories in 2026 landed as the fourth-most in program history.
