Scots thrash Panthers 2-0

MC Sports Information

The Men's Soccer team was able to get a goal in each half as they cruised to a 2-0 victory against LaGrange on Friday in the semi-final round of the Great South Athletic Conference tournament.

The Scots were led by senior Jake Holt. In the 18th minute, Holt found the back of the net with the assist going to freshman Payne Fisher. Maryville would take the 1-0 lead to halftime. In the second half it would be more of the same. Holt would again find the twine in the 46th minute, this time unassisted. Two goals would be more than enough for freshman keeper Ben Munger as he earned his fifth shutout of the year.

The Scots dominated play throughout the game. Maryville was able to out shoot LaGrange 13-5 while also attempting more corners at 4-3.

"We played good tonight. I'm happy we are in another GSAC championship game and close to our goal of another championship. We'll come out tomorrow and try to compete at a high level," said assistant coach Jon Baker.

The win brings the Scots to 13-4-2 on the year. Maryville will now compete in the GSAC championship game tomorrow when they play the winner of the other semi-final game between Huntingdon and Piedmont. The GSAC will determine a champion tomorrow when the game kicks off at 4:30 on Saturday.
