Men's Soccer drops 1-0 decision to Averett University

Maryville's men's soccer team was unable to keep pace with a tough opponent in the hosting Cougars of Averett University on Saturday afternoon.

After playing to a scoreless first half, Averett scored the only goal of the match in the 54th minute of play. The Scots would struggle against one of the better teams in the USA South being out shot 27-8 on the afternoon.

"We played a good team today and we were one shot away from making it a drastically different game," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "We are still getting better every day and working to compete at a high level in every contest."

The Scots drop to 4-8-1 on the year and 2-2 in USA South competition. Maryville will now travel for a Sunday contest against Greensboro College tomorrow. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
