Men's Soccer

Late goal sinks Scots

Box Score

It took over seventy minutes for a goal to be scored in the men's soccer match between Centre College and Maryville College, and one late goal would be all the visitors from Centre would need on Tuesday.

The first half was highly contested and evenly played throughout.  The stat sheet at half slightly favored Centre in shots (4-3) and corner kicks (6-4).

The second half was Maryville's undoing. The Scots committed six fouls to only one for Centre while also giving up eight shots while only taking two for the entire second period. And finally, in the 72nd minute, Centre scored the only goal of the contest.

"I thought we played really well tonight," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "Centre has a good team this year and we are much younger, but we were able to hang around and create some opportunities. Unfortunately we weren't able to get the goal we needed tonight."

The loss drops Maryville to 4-7-1 on the year. The Scots will now travel to Averett in USA South action this Saturday. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
