Scots can not find perimeter touch in 69-56 loss to Oglethorpe

The Oglethorpe University Stormy Petrels used a strong second half to give Maryville College their first loss of the season, defeating the Scots 69-56 in the first round of an annual holiday challenge between Oglethorpe, Maryville, Emory, and LaGrange.

 

Oglethorpe trailed 34-32 at the half, but used a second half surge to out score MC 37-22. The Petrels shot 45% from the field and forced 19 Maryville turnovers despite being out rebounded by the Scots.

 

OU (3-0) was paced by Tyler Courson's 15 points while Christian Molinet deposited 14.

 

Maryville (2-1) shot only 33% from the field and could not find their perimeter game with a 4-for-24 (17%) effort from beyond the arc. Joey Bodewig led MC with 13 points and eight rebounds. Oscar Butler was also strong under the basket with 10 points and eight boards. Wes Lambert, Jaumonee Byrd, and Craig Raye each added six points.

 

MC will challenge Emory University to conclude the tough NCAA Division III road challenge on Sunday.
