Box Score The Maryville College men's basketball dropped their first USA South road challenge with an 81-57 defeat at the hands of LaGrange College on Saturday afternoon in LaGrange, Georgia.
LaGrange, opening their 2012-2013 USA South schedule, used a 61% shooting effort in the second half to turn away Maryville's one-point halftime lead. The Panthers also capitalized on MC miscues sinking 29 points collectively off 21 Maryville turnovers. The Scots could not counter LaGrange's 21-for-34 second half effort from the floor and managed only a 27% effort while going 1-for-15 from beyond the arc to close the game.
LaGrange (6-1, 1-0 USA South) was paced by Mark Wagner and Patrick Dugger. Each Panther finished with 15 points while going 11-for-19 collectively from the field. Denzel Robinson added 14 points while Nick Mitchell tossed in 13 points. Marcus Vaughn led LaGrange on the boards with a game-hgh 13 rebounds.
Maryville (4-4, 1-2 USA South) used a 13 point effort by Wes Lambert. Joey Bodewig and Craig Raye each added nine points. Bodewig led MC with eight rebounds.
The Scots will take some time off for the Christmas holiday and return to action December 28th when they host Guilford College. Tip-off in the Boydson Baird Gymnasium is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
