Senior Day Celebration Tempered by Emory Sweep

Senior Day at Maryville College Softball honored four senior student-athletes Megan Lock, Sarah Reeder, Chastity Smith, and Leah Kelley. The celebration of their accomplishments was tempered with the double header sweep of the No.2 ranked Emory University Eagles. MC fell to Emory 3-1 before the Eagles completed the sweep with a 7-2 victory.

In game one, Emory touched MC starter Sarah Reeder for a pair of runs in the second inning. Three hits and an MC error put Emory up 2-0.  EU extended their lead with a two-out homerun that made the score 3-0.

Maryville's only run came in the fifth when Brittany Henry drove in Jennie Burks with an RBI single to right field.

MC pitcher Sarah Reeder fell to 3-11 on the season after scattering eight hits in a complete game effort.

Offensively, the Scots managed six hits. Leah Kelley and Andrea Brew each went 2-for-3.

In MC's second challenge, a pitching battle was on for four complete innings. Each team did not touch the plate until the fifth inning.

In the fifth, Emory scored on a strikeout, an RBI single, and a wild pitch to go up 3-0. Maryville rallied with a Henry RBI single to left field to send Jennie Burks home and RBI single by Chastity Smith sending Henry to pay dirt. After five complete innings, the score stood at 3-2.

Emory touched MC reliever Sarah Reeder for a pair of runs in the sixth and a pair of solo homeruns in the seventh to finish the game 7-2.

Brittany Henry (7-8) suffered the loss for MC. She scattered five hits in five innings while striking out 11 Emory hitters.

Maryville's six hit attack was paced by Brittany Henry (2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) and Chastity Smith (2-3, 1 RBI).

The Scots fall to 11-21 on the season while the No.2 ranked Eagles advance to 29-3. MC will host Wesleyan College in a double header on Sunday beginning at noon.
