Box Score It took a full 90 minutes to decide the men's soccer match between Maryville and Transylvania and ultimately it was a goal in the last five minutes that decided the game in the Pioneers favor on the campus of Transylvania on Wednesday evening.
The scoring would come in a flash and be gone just as quick in the first half. Transy would score the first goal of the game just over seven minutes into play. Less than a minute later freshman forward Conner McCarty would add the equalizer and the final goal of the first half.
The second half would seem similar to first half, with Transylvania once again scoring in the 77th minute of the game. Adam Spannbauer would immediately answer for the Scots with his first goal of the season in the 78th minute. However, it would be the goal in the 88th minute that the Scots would have no answer for as Maryville lost 3-2.
"Transy has been very good this year and hasn't lost at home yet," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "For a young team like ours to come in here and fight the way we did through all the adversity we had to go through on the road is good for the development of this group. Of course you'd like to get the win, but we played well."
Maryville now has a record of 3-4-1 on the year. The Scots will next be in action on Sunday when they host the Hawks of Huntingdon College at 4:00 pm.
