Scots fall 2-1 in double overtime to Hawks

Box Score

In a game dominated by the Scots, it took 108 minutes for Huntingdon College to score the game clinching goal and defeat Maryville College 2-1 on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Maryville College.

Maryville would out shoot Huntingdon 6-1 in the first half with no scoring to report. The Scots controlled much of the play throughout the first half, as they would all game. However, the game would be tied at zero after the first 45 minutes of play.

Huntingdon would find the back of the net first as they netted a goal in the 60th minute of play. Maryville would once again carry the pace of the game and it wouldn't be until the 80th minute of play that the Scots would have something to show for their efforts.  Sean Yoder would beat the Hawk keeper with the help of Curtis Damron to knot the game at one. This would end the scoring for regulation with Maryville leading every significant offensive category except the score board. Maryville would out shoot the Hawks 20-4 in regulation and 5-1 in overtime; however, it was Huntingdon that four score the lone OT goal.

"We really felt like we out played them today," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "It is frustrating when you do enough to win a game, but the results don't show it. Huntingdon did enough to get the job done and it's unfortunate we can't say the same."

The loss drops Maryville to 3-5-1 on the year. The Scots will be back in action on Tuesday when they play host to Covenant College. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
