Box Score The Maryville College men's basketball team earned their seventh victory of the season with an 80-61 non-conference victory over Covenant College on Wednesday evening in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
MC's defense forced 20 Covenant turnovers and held the visiting Scots to a 39% shooting effort on the night. Maryville collapsed on the post to force tough shots while Covenant guards could not find their perimeter touch going 1-for-12 behind the arc for the entire contest.
Maryville's offense was sparked by four players in double figures. The team connected on 46% of their shots, including a 34% success rate from long distance.
Covenant (10-6) was led by Jon DeVries' 11 points while Joey Danek tossed in 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Maryville (7-8) had Oscar Butler and Jaumonee Byrd setting game-highs with 15 points each. The pair went 11-for-20 from the field. Jose Agosto dropped 12 points after going 3-for-4 from three-point range. Christian Ford added 10 points and four assists from the point guard position. Butler paced MC at the boards with a game-high eight rebounds.
The Scots will now prepare for a tough USA South road trip to North Carolina. They will challenge Christopher Newport and North Carolina Wesleyan over the weekend.
