Box Score It took less than five minutes for Maryville to score two goals and produce all the offense needed in a 3-0 victory on Wednesday night on the campus of Maryville College in USA South action.
The first five minute belonged to Alex Waddel as the sophomore would score both goals early in the first half. Waddel would score the first goal on a corner kick that was misplayed by the Piedmont keeper. Freshman Thomas Palmer would play a beautiful ball between the legs of a Piedmont defender less than four minutes later and Waddel would promptly deposit the ball into the back of the net for his second goal of the evening. The Scots would dominate the first half outshooting the Lions seven to three while also attempting five corners to just one for Piedmont.
In the 55th minute Sean Yoder would score on a corner kick off the foot of Patrick Braxton. Maryville would once again the stats in the second half, outshooting Piedmont as well as having more corner kick opportunities. Seniors Adam Spannbauer and Brennon Picarella were key in the shutout along with junior keeper Ben Munger and senior keeper Thomas Sykes.
"It's always nice to get a win on senior night," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "We came out with some fire early and put up two goals. I'm happy with our effort tonight."
The win brings Maryville to 7-3-2 overall and 4-2-0 in USA South action. The Scots will now travel to LaGrange for a game on saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
