Box Score It took Maryville College five minutes to score the first goal of the game and 83 minutes to score the game winner in a 2-1 victory against Covenant College on Wednesday night in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
In the 5th minute of play Maryville would strike first when Freshman Tim Baker scored off a pass from Sophomore Patrick Braxton. The Maryville goal and seven saves by Junior Ben Munger allowed the Scots from Maryville to take a 1-0 lead to halftime.
Covenant would answer in the 57th minute with the game tying goal. With only seven minutes remaining, Braxton would once again key a Maryville goal as David Lethco buried the ball in the back of the net after an outstanding pass from Braxton.
Munger and the defense would be vital in the Maryville victory as the Cullman, Alabama keeper would turn away 13 of the 14 Covenant shots that were on frame.
"Ben and the defense played well tonight," said assistant coach Jon Baker. "Coach Walker has worked hard with our keepers and it was evident tonight in how well Munger played."
Maryville moves to 5-2-2 on the year and 2-1 in USA South action. The Highlanders will be back in action on Saturday when they host Huntingdon College. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
