Box Score 2 The Maryville College softball team dropped to 0-4 on the season after falling to Emory University 9-0 before ending the 2013 Emory Invitational with a 6-5 loss to Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday.
Emory blanked MC for the second consecutive day as Eagle hurler Sydney Carpenter no-hit the Scots in five innings. Megan Mihaliak suffered the loss on the mound after scattering 10 hits. She allowed only three earned runs while the Scots defense logged four errors.
In the tournament finale, Maryville took a lead into the final inning. Agnes Scott tallied a four-run final at-bat to pressure an MC comeback. The Scots pushed across a run in the seventh, but it was not enough to earn their first win of the season.
Offensively, Maryville's Taylor Dockery went 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Corey Hairrell finished 2-for-4 with a team-high two RBI's. Andrea Brew and Lexie Randolph each went 2-for-4.
Randolph suffered the loss on the mound. She struck out 11 Scottie hitters in a complete game effort. She scattered ten hits and gave up only two earned runs.
Maryville (0-4) will prepare for next weekend when they travel to Birmingham Southern and Berry College next Saturday and Sunday.
