The Maryville College softball team had a tough weekend with road losses at Birmingham Southern and Berry College this weekend to fall to 0-8 on the early season.
In Alabama, Maryville lost 9-1 and 8-0 on Saturday. In the first game Kayla Aloisi suffered the loss on the mound after surrendering seven earned runs on seven hits in a complete game effort. MC's Hannah Youngdeer went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Maryville's four hit attack was supported by Corey Hairrell and Kelci Swafford each depositing a single. During the second challenge, MC's Lexi Randolph took the loss after giving up seven hits in 4.2 innings. The Panthers tallied eight runs with only one run being earned.
The Berry series was dropped by the scores of 9-2 and 9-1. The Vikings pounded out 12 hits in the opener. Megan Mihaliak took the loss after surrendering eight hits and five earned runs in three innings of work. The Scots managed only three hits with Youngdeer, Mihaliak, and Taylor Dockery each reaching base safely. In the weekend finale, Berry posted another dozen hits while Maryville managed only three hits. Mihaliak, Dockery, and Youngdeer each picked up a hit for the Scots. Mihaliak tok her second loss of the day on the mound with three innings of work, surrendering eight hits and five earned runs.
Maryville will travel to Covenant College next Saturday before their season home opener on Sunday against Berea College.
