Box Score The Maryville College men's basketball team concluded their inaugural USA South regular season with a 91-79 road win over Averett University in Danville, Virginia on Sunday evening.
MC's Oscar Butler exploded for a team-high 21 points after connecting on 7-of-8 three pointers. The Murfreesboro native also dished out six assists while grabbing six rebounds. Point guard Christian Ford shot 50% from the field en route to a 15 point, six assist effort. Joey Bodewig was strong in the paint with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting while bringing down six boards. Wes Lambert added to MC's double figure scorers with 10 points as the lone senior concludes his regular season career.
Averett (9-16, 4-10 USA South) was paced by Justin Pierce who sank a game-high 25 points on 10-of-22 shooting. Bradley Robinson added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Cougars.
Maryville (10-13, 5-9 USA South) will prepare for their first USA South basketball tournament in Fayetteville, North Carolina this upcoming weekend. The Scots will be the No. 7 seed and challenge No. 2 Ferrum at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evening in the Crown Center Arena in Fayetteville.
