Box Score 2 The Maryville College softball team is still in search of their first victory of the season following a double header loss in their home opener to Berea College on Sunday afternoon. Berea out scored the Scots 12-3 in the opener before taking the nightcap 4-1 to move MC to 0-10 on the season.
In the first game Maryville managed only five hits as shortstop Megan Mihaliak went 2-for-3 to pace the Scots' offense. Corey Hairrell, Caitlin Cox, and Andea Brew each collected a hit for MC. Hairrell suffered the loss on the mound after surrendering a dozen hits in five innings of work. She struck out five while Maryville's defense suffered four errors where eight of their runs were unearned during the contest.
In the series finale, Maryville's Caitlin went 2-for-2 at the plate to supports the Scots' five hit attack. Hannah Youngdeer supplied MC's only RBI after going 1-for-2. Taylor Dockery and Mihaliak each added singles for MC's offensive attack. Lexie Randolph took the loss as the hurler. Randolph struck out eight hitters while scattering seven hits in a complete game effort.
Maryville will open USA South action this Saturday, March 2nd when they host Piedmont College.
