Errors Plague Softball Opening Weekend in Atlanta

The Maryville College softball team opened their 2013 season in the Emory Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia. The Scots dropped their first pair of games with a 12-7 loss to Agnes Scott College and a 9-0 shutout at the hands of nationally ranked Emory University.

Against Agnes Scott, Maryville took a 7-6 lead into the sixth inning but the Georgian Scotties posted six runs off reliever Corey Hairrell to claim the 12-7 victory. MC's Hannah Youngdeer went-2-for 4 with a triple and three RBI's while Megan Mihaliak finished 2-for-3 with a runs scored and an RBI. Maryville's defense committed four errors while Agnes Scott stroked 13 hits.

In the second challenge, Emory stroked nine hits, but scored only four earned runs off starter Lexi Randloph. The Scots defense accounted for an additional six errors against the Eagles. Maryville managed only three hits with Miranda Miller, Caitlin Cox, and Andre Brew each successfully reaching base on hits.

Maryville (0-2) will conclude tournament action on Sunday, facing the same two Atlanta based institutions.
