The Maryville College softball team snapped their 24-game losing streak with a 9-6 road win at North Carolina Wesleyan College on Friday. The Bishops took the second game of the USA South doubleheader by the score of 5-1 to move MC to 1-25 overall and 1-11 within the USA South.
In the series opener, Lexie Randloph picked up the win on the mound following a complete game effort striking out five and allowing only four earned runs. Maryville jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first when Kalyn Jones singled to plate Corey Hairrell and Randolph singled to drive in Caitlin Cox and . Trailing 4-2 after four innings, Maryville pushed across six runs in the fifth inning on hits by Hairrell, Cox, Andrea Brew, and Taylor Dockery. The Scots sent home an insurance run in the sixth when Randloph drove home Jennie Burks for their ninth and final run. Megan Mikaliak finished 3-for-4 while Dockery, Hairrell, and Cox each posted a pair of hits in MC's 13 hit attack.
MC lost the series finale against the Bsihops 5-1. Kayla Aloisi suffered the loss after throwing six innings of nine hit ball while surrendering only a pair of earned runs. MC scored their only run in the sixth when Aloisi drove home Emily Surrett with a single down the right field line.
Following the USA split, Maryville advances to 1-25, 1-11 USA South while NC Wesleyan goes to 8-10, 5-7 USA South. The Scots will challenge Christopher Newport University in Newport News Virginia on saturday.
