Box Score 2 The Maryville College softball team fell to 0-4 in the USA South standings after dropping a pair of games to conference foe LaGrange College on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Maryville College. Panther hurlers limited MC to only three hits in their opening 6-2 loss, but a final inning two-run rally by the visitors pushed LaGrange past the Scots 2-1 in the nightcap.
In the first challenge, a trio of LaGrange pitchers allowed only Taylor Dockery, Caitlin Cox, and Hannah Youngdeer to get on base safely while the Panther offense scattered 14 hits and five earned runs of MC starter Lexie Randolph. A solo homerun by Dockery and an RBI single to centerfield by Youngdeer accounted for MC pair of runs. With the first game win, LaGrange advanced to 5-2 on the season.
The Scots played one of their strongest games in the series finale. MC took the lead in the bottom of the third innings when Jennie Burks singled and advanced to second on a throwing error. Kayla Aloisi sacrificed Burks to third and Megan Mihaliak stroked a single to right field to score Burks. LaGrange took advantage of a hit batter and a throwing error to score an unearned run to tie the game. An infield single plated the go-ahead run and Mc could not answer in their final at-bat. MC out hit the Panthers 7-5 as Caitlin Cox and Jennie Burks each finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Kayla Aloisi suffered the loss after a complete game five hit effort on the mound. She struck out four while giving up only one earned run.
LaGrange advances to 6-2 on the season while Maryville falls to 0-16. MC will travel to Greensboro College on Friday to begin their spring break full of action. They will challenge the Pride in Greensboro, North Carolina and return home on Sunday, March 17th to host Methodist University.
