Box Score In a hard fought game that saw seven yellow cards, the Scots and Stormy Petrels settled for a 2-2 tie in men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta.
Maryville would strike first in the eighth minute of play when Tim Baker found the back of the net from Brennon Picarella. Oglethorpe would answer on a header in the 25th minute to tie the game. The Scots would answer quickly, just four minutes later, when Thomas Palmer scored the second goal of the day for Maryville. The Scots would take the 2-1 lead to intermission.
In the 68th minute Oglethorpe would score the final goal of the game, knotting the contest at 2-2. The rest of the game saw no more scoring, but plenty of drama as five yellow cards, including four against the Scots, were handed out.
"We played a decent team on the road and came out with a draw," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "Of course, we would have liked to get a better result, especially going into the half with a lead, but that's why you play the game. We didn't finish."
The draw brings Maryville to 2-0-1 on the year. The Scots will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host Emory University. Game time is 7:00 pm.
