Box Score The men's soccer team from Maryville College earned a hard fought USA South road victory over Averett University 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The lone Scots' goal in the first half would come off the foot of freshman
Thomas Palmer on a penalty kick to tie the score at 1-1. Averett started the scoring just seven minutes into the game. Though both teams had opportunities, the 1-1 score would be the score at half time.
Maryville would fight hard and earn the decisive goal late in the second half when
Konner Dozark would find the back of the net from
Tim Baker in the 79
th minute. Maryville was out shot 22-10 on the afternoon but made the most of the opportunities presented to them. Sophomore keeper
Jon Taylor picked up his second victory of the year.
"This was a good win for us," said head coach
Pepe Fernandez. "It is important to go on the road and win in the USA South if you are going to have a good year. We got it done today and I am happy with our performance."
Maryville improves to 4-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in USA South action. The Scots will host Transylvania on Tuesday evening, game time is set for 7:00 pm.
