Multiple Scots have career days in 39-14 win over Greensboro

Box Score

Maryville College punter Kenneth Horne had an easy day, as the freshman didn't punt a single time during the Scots' 39-14 win over Greensboro College on Saturday afternoon.

Numerous Maryville players came home with career marks, as Eddie Brock rushed for his first career 100-yard game. The sophomore averaged 10 yards per carry, as he had 120 yards on only 12 carries. Brock scored his second career touchdown to lead Maryville's rushing attack.

Fellow sophomore, Trenton Shuler, tallied his 10th touchdown of the season, as he rushed for his fourth career 100-yard game – his third in a row. Shuler had 101 yards on 21 carries for three touchdowns, as he scored his fourth of the day on a 27-yard reception from Nick Meyers.

The Scots rolled up 351 yards rushing on their way to 437 total yards, as the Pride could only muster 224 total yards.

Gabe Johnson led the Maryville defense with seven tackles, as Zach Capehart had six tackles, including a sack and forced fumble. Jonathan Clark had five tackles including a sack for 9 yards, as he recovered a fumble. Stevorius Kimball had a career day, picking off his first interception as a true freshman.

One concern for the Scots was PAT kicks. Maryville could only score on three-of-six attempts on extra points, as Wesley Bloeme was 2-of-4 on the day. Alex Willard was 1-of-2.

Greensboro College (1-5, 1-3 USA South) was led by Ryan Throndset, who threw 17-of-29 for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Warren Scott Jr. rushed for 44 yards on 14 carries, as he led receivers with 88 yards and a touchdown on five catches.

Maryville College (5-2, 4-1) got on the board first, as Shuler scored on a 1-yard run up the middle. Shuler's run capped a 13-play, 74-yard drive. Bloeme's PAT attempt sailed wide left, as the Scots led 6-0, with 3:05 left in the first quarter.

Shuler again hit paydirt for the Scots, as he again crossed the line from 1-yard out. The scoring play capped a 10-play, 69-yard drive. Shuler picked up a 10-yard run on fourth-and-three, as Brock took Maryville to the 1-yard line on three straight physical runs. Shuler finished the drive for a 13-0 lead with 11:30 left before the first half.

Kimball picked off his first collegiate interception on Greensboro's next drive at the Maryville 36-yard line. The pick set up the Scots' third score of the day, as Meyers hit Shuler for the sophomore's third touchdown of the day. Shuler used a wheel route out of the backfield to the left, as Meyers rolled right. The score covered 27 yards, as Maryville led 20-0 with 8:07 left in the second quarter.

Greensboro got on the board with 3:54 remaining in the half. Throndset hit Scott Jr. on a 27-yard sideline route, as the Scots had a break in coverage. Greensboro trailed 20-7.

The Pride ran the tip drill to perfection, as Willie Marshall picked of Evan Pittenger, as Trey Daniels tipped the pass on the Scots' next drive. Greensboro took over on their own 44-yard, scoring on a five-play, 56-yard drive. Throndset hit Scott Jr. for first-and-goal at the 9-yard line, before an offsides penalty helped the Pride. Throndset was able to connect with Gregory Clifton for a 5-yard score with 40 seconds left in the first half.

The Scots held a 20-14 lead at the break.

Maryville opened the second half, hitting paydirt. Pittenger led the Scots on an eight-play, 60-yard drive, as he took the last 4 yards on his own feet. Bloeme's PAT sailed wide for the second time on the day, as Maryville led 26-14 with 11:28 left in the third quarter.

On third-and-8, Capehart stormed through the line to sack Throndset for an 8-yard loss, as the ball popped free. Clark fell on the loose ball, as Maryville took over on the 41-yard line. The Scots covered the 41-yard distance in only four plays, as Shuler scored his fourth touchdown of the day, this time from 6 yards out. Willard notched the extra point, as Maryville led 33-14 with 7:37 left in the third quarter.

Maryville again got on the board with 12:35 left in the game. The 12-play, 79-yard drive was capped with a 15-yard scamper by Brock for his second touchdown of the season. Willard's extra-point attempt sailed wide, for the final margin of the game.

Maryville will have the Bye Week next weekend, before hosting N.C. Wesleyan on Nov. 1 at 1:30 p.m.
