Scots Fall to Greensboro 1-0

Box Score

The USA South leading Pride of Greensboro College earned a hard fought 1-0 victory over the Scots of Maryville College in men's soccer on Saturday afternoon on Maryville's "Senior Day".

In a very physical match, Greensboro kept constant offensive pressure on MC in the first half out shooting the Scots 5-1. Maryville goalkeeper Ben Munger recorded six saves during the match, three in each half.

Greensboro's lone goal came in the 35th minute when Asa Britten attacked the right side of the MC defense and kicked the ball to Warren Washington. Washington connected for an attempt that was directed away by Munger, but the Pride striker was persistent with another attempt to hit the back of the net. The goal was Washington's first of the season.

The second half was another physical and fast-paced battle with field position consistently changing. On the afternoon Greensboro out shot the Scots 11-4 and Pride keeper Logan Rohde earned the shutout in net.

With the win Greensboro advances to 11-6 overall and 9-1 within the USA South. Maryville falls to 10-5-1 overall and 6-3-1 in league challenges. Coach Fernandez and his squad will anxiously await the seeding for the 2014 USA South Championships that will begin on November 1st.
