MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Covenant College forward Ian Meredith converted a penalty kick in the 11th minute and midfielder Joel Friesen added an insurance goal in the 88th minute as the second-seeded Scots claimed a 2-0 victory over fifth-seeded Maryville College in the title game of the 2014 USA South Men's Soccer Tournament which took place on Saturday, November 8 at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville, Virginia. The win earns Covenant its first-ever USA South tournament championship.
Throughout the tournament, Covenant was led offensively by forward Snoopy Davidson. He tallied three goals during tournament play which included one game-winning goal in both the first round and semifinal contests. For his efforts, he was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
With the victory, the Scots claim the USA South's automatic bid into the 2014 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament.
