Box Score 1 The Maryville College softball team opened up action at the Rhodes College Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Scots dropped their tournament opener 9-1 to DePauw and then were shutout by tournament host Rhodes College 9-0.
Against DePauw, MC hurler Lexie Randolph held the Tigers scoreless for the first three innings. Maryville took an early 1-0 lead when Kalyn Jones drove in Hannah Youngdeer with a single to right field in the second inning. DePauw evened the score 1-1 with a fielder's choice RBI. They broke the game open in the fifth inning with eight runs. The Tigers posted 10 hits while Haleigh Chasteen earned the win on the mound by limiting the Scots to four hits in a complete game effort. Emilie Craven, Tiffany Brand, Hannah Youngdeer, and Kalyn Jones were the only Lady Scots to record hits. Youngdeer and Craven each posted doubles.
The Lynx of Rhodes College shutout MC with a two hit pitching performance from Forrest Skelton. MC's Hannah Youngdeer and Taylor Dockery were the only Scots to reach base safely. Kayla Aloisi suffered the loss on the mound after surrendering 11 hits and 8 earned runs in a complete game effort.
Maryville (0-6) will conclude the tournament on Sunday against the same two opponents.
