Box Score Maryville College's Christian Ford connected on a slashing jump shot as time expired to lift the Scots past Huntingdon College by the score of 74-72 on Saturday evening in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Hawks tied the game 72-72 with 15 second remaining on a long three pointer. MC Head Coach Randy Lambert called a timeout with nine seconds remaining to set up Ford's game-winning heroics.
Maryville took advantage of their free throw opportunities hitting 12-of-17 (71%) for the game while out rebounding the Hawks slightly on the evening.
The Scots (16-6, 11-0 USA South) extended their win streak to a dozen games on a pair of double-double performances by Jaumonee Byrd and Oscar Butler. Byrd went 8-for-14 from the field and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe for 21 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Butler equaled Byrd's game-high tally on the boards with 11 while also sinking 21 points. Joey Bodewig was strong in the paint with nine points and four rebounds while Ford finished with a game-high four assists and eight points.
Huntingdon (7-13, 6-4 USA South) was led by Jerome Davis' 19 points. Jason Varney (11 points/10 rebounds) and Austin Hill (12 points/10 rebounds) added double-doubles for the host squad. Byron Dudley tossed in 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
MC will complete their USA South southern weekend swing with a challenge against LaGrange College in Georgia on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 3:00.
