Box Score The Maryville College Fighting Scots earned their ninth consecutive victory with a 79-49 win over Covenant College on Wednesday evening in MC's Cooper Athletic Center.
Maryville forced 15 turnovers and held the Georgian Scots to a 27% shooting effort throughout the game. Covenant could not find their touch on the perimeter going 2-for-15 from beyond the arc as Maryville connected on 9-of-21 treys (43%) while shooting over 45% from the field during the USA South challenge.
Maryville outpaced Covenant 41-21 at the intermission and finished off the 30-point win with a 38-point effort in the final period.
Covenant (8-13, 3-7 USA South) was paced by Chris Boyd's 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting. Teron Ferguson finished with seven points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Maryville (13-6, 9-0 USA South) was led by senior point guard J.P. Burris. Burris hit three treys while going 5-for-8 from the field for a team-high 13 points. Jaumonee Byrd was strong in the paint sinking 5-of-9 shots for 11 points while grabbing seven boards. Oscar Butler recorded a team-high eight rebounds while depositing 10 points. Joey Bodewig added 10 points and five boards on 4-of-5 shooting.
The Scots will now prepare for a key USA South match up on Saturday when they host league rival LaGrange College. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
