Box Score 1 The Maryville College softball team dropped their final pair of games in the Emory Invitational in Atlanta on Saturday. The Averett University Cougars advanced to 2-2 on the season with an 11-4 win over the Scots before MC fell to tournament host Emory by the score of 10-3.
Against Averett, Maryville battle to a one-run deficit through six complete innings, but the Cougars broke the game open in the last inning with a seven run surge. Averett connected for 11 hits off MC starter Lexie Randolph (0-2). Randolph struck out six in a complete game effort. The Scots' offense managed eight hits off Cougar hurlers. Kelci Swafford finished 2-for-4 with a run scored while Emilie Craven went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Hannah Youngdeer paced MC with a pair of RBI's at the plate.
In the tournament finale Emory (4-0) earned their #12 national ranking with a 14 hit performance at the plate. Maryville maintained a 3-3 tie through four innings, but the Eagles posted seven runs in their final pair of offensive innings to preserve the win. MC's Kayla Aloisi suffered the loss, scattering nine hits in four innings of work. Emory's Amanda Kardys earned her third consecutive win on the mound limiting the Scots to three hits in 5.1 innings of work. Megan Mihaliak, Tiffany Brand, and Jennie Burks were the only Scots to record hits during the challenge.
Maryville (0-4) will now prepare for the Rhodes Invitational Tournament in Memphis, Tennessee on February 15-16.
