Box Score 2 The Maryville College softball team concluded a six-game home weekend with a double header loss to Averett University on Sunday. The Cougars swept the Scots 9-0 and 4-2 to claim the USA South Athletic Conference series.
In the first game Averett run-ruled MC 9-0 in five innings. The Cougars touched MC starter Kayla Aloisi for 13 hits and seven earned runs while Averett's Mary Beth Smith one-hit the Scots. Megan Mihaliak was the lone Highlander to record a base hit in the loss.
In the nightcap, Averett held a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth. Maryville's Jennie Burks doubled to centerfield to drive in Lexie Randolph and Jessica McMahan to tie the game. The Cougars used a pair of RBI singles in their final inning to take the lead for good.
Maryville's 10-hit attack was paced by Taylor Dockery's 2-for-4 effort.
The Scots (3-13) will travel to NC Wesleyan and Meredith next weekend for their next USA South challenge.
