The Maryville College softball team concluded a six-game road swing with a double header split at Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina on Saturday. The Scots fell to the Monarchs 6-2 in the first game and battled back for a 10-8 USA South victory in the series finale.
In the first game three Methodist hurlers held the Scots to seven hits and a pair of earned runs to secure the win. Maryville's Tiffany Brand put the Scots on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Taylor Dockery. MC's only additional run came in the last inning when Kayla Aloisi scored on a wild pitch. Hannah Youngdeer paced MC at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort.
In the second challenge Maryville took advantage of four Monarch errors and a strong pitching effort by Lexie Randolph to earn the victory. Trailing 7-0, Maryville put up five runs in the top of the fourth inning. Maryville scored on a bases loaded Cydnee Morrisette walk, an RBI single by Kalyn Jones, an RBI fielder's choice by Summer Northcutt, and a two-RBI single by Taylor Dockery. The Scots tied the game 7-7 in the next inning when Kayla Aloisi laced a double down the rightfield line scoring Megan Mihaliak and Hannah Youngdeer. Maryville took the lead for good in the sixth when Aloisi lifted another double to right-centerfield to plate Youngdeer, Brand, and Dockery. Aloisi finished the game with a season-high five RBIs. Lexie Randolph earned her second consecutive victory on the mound. The right-hander scattered 10 hits over a complete game effort. She struck out four while allowing only four earned runs.
Methodist falls to 8-17 on the season and 5-9 in USA South action. Maryville advances to 6-24 and 4-12 within league challenges.
The Scots will prepare for a mid-week USA South challenge at Piedmont College next Wednesday.
