Box Score 2 The Maryville College softball team earned a tough USA South doubleheader split over LaGrange College on Sunday. The Scots fell to the Panthers 10-4 in the series opener but rallied in the nightcap to earn a 3-2 league victory.
In the opener LaGrange banged out 15 hits while taking advantage of three MC miscues. Maryville's offense countered with an 11-hit attack but tallied only a pair of runs in the first and last plate appearances.
MC tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the first when Hannah Youngdeer doubled to send Jessica McMahan home. Lexie Randolph drove in Youngdeer with a single up the middle.
The Panthers scored in five of the seven inning connecting on five earned runs off MC starter Kayla Aloisi. In a complete game effort, Aloisi fell to 3-13 while walking seven Panther hitters.
The Scots rallied for a pair of runs in the seventh on a Kalyn Jones RBI double. Aloisi scored MC's final run on an unearned run.
Jessica McMahan, Megan Mihaliak, Lexie Randolph, and Kalyn Jones each tallied a pair of hits for the Scots.
In the series finale, MC's Lexie Randolph cooled off LaGrange's hot bats scattering eight hits in a complete game win. Randolph (4-14) allowed only two earned runs while her Scots stroked nine hits.
Trailing 2-0 after LaGrange's first at-bat, Maryville tallied a trio of runs in the bottom of the second. Jessica McMahan drove in a pair before Taylor Dockery scored on a double steal. Lexie Randolph and Maryville's defense closed the door the remaining five innings.
Randloph and Kalyn Jones each finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
With the split, LaGrange falls to 19-9 overall and 10-8 in USA South action. The Scots advance to 7-27 and 4-15 within the league.
Maryville will now prepare to host USA South foe Ferrum College on Thursday. The doubleheader will begin at 3:00 on MC's campus facility.
