Box Score 2 The Maryville College softball team dropped a pair of USA South games to Ferrum College on Thursday on MC's campus field. The Scots fell to the Panthers 11-1 in a five inning run-ruled contest before being shutout 7-0 in the series finale.
In the opener, a 0-0 tied was broken wide open when Ferrum connected for six runs in the third inning. Maryville got on the board with an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth before the Panthers closed out the game with a four-run fifth.
Ferrum connected for 15 hits and took advantage of a pair of MC errors. Scots' hurler Lexie Randolph suffered the loss after giving up six earned runs in five innings of work. The Scots connected for only three hits. Jessica McMahan, Hannah Youngdeer, and Tiffany Brand were the only Lady Scots to reach base safely.
In the nightcap the Panthers allowed only two hits while stroking 16 more hits offensively. A scoreless game was broken in the fourth and Ferrum tallied five runs in their final at-bat to preserve the victory. Hannah Youngdeer and Kalyn Jones were the only Scots to record hits. Kayla Aloisi suffered the loss on the mound after giving up seven earned runs in a complete game effort.
The win moves Ferrum to 18-10 on the season and 13-7 in the USA South. Maryville falls to 7-29 and 5-17 in league play.
MC will host Greensboro on Saturday for a USA South doubleheader beginning at noon. The Scots will honor their lone senior Taylor Dockery before the game.
