Box Score The Maryville College men's soccer team rebounded from a tough loss on Friday evening to defeat Averett University 2-0 on Saturday evening in Danville, Virginia.
A physical first half that saw numerous attacks on each keeper resulted in a 2-0 Maryville first half advantage.
At the 35th minute George Davies gathered a deflection and connected on a one touch just out of the reach of the Cougar keeper. The game-winner was Davies' 8th goal of his first season with the Scots.
Just six minutes later, Andrew Sullivan re-directed a corner kick finding Hayden Puryear for the header goal. Puryear's goal was his second of the season.
Despite hitting the crossbar on four occasions, Averett could not get a shot past MC keeper Jon Taylor. Taylor secured the shutout with four outstanding saves.
The game featured 35 fouls and pair of yellow cards with Maryville out shooting the Cougars 15-12.
The loss moves Averett to 5-11 on the season and 4-5 in USA South play. Maryville maintains their hold on third place in the USA South standings with a 12-2-2 record while going 6-1-2 in league play.
The Scots will prepare for their final regular season challenge on Wednesday, October 28th at Covenant College.
