Box Score The Maryville College Scots finished their regular season with a 2-1 USA South victory over Covenant College on Wednesday night at the Chattanooga Christian School.
The two teams went scoreless for nearly 70 minutes of the contest, before Maryville found the first goal of the game with a goal by Hayden Puryear.
Puryear found a header off a free kick into the top right corner in the 69th minute. Maryville would continue the pressure, putting two more shots toward the goal before finding a second.
Tim Baker found the let off a free kick into the right side of the net to give the Scots of Maryville a 2-0 lead late in the match.
Covenant wouldn't go away, however, as the Georgian Scots posted a goal by Michael Arango in the 86th minute, putting the match back into a contest for Maryville. Arango dribbled through the Maryville defense, putting the goal past Jon Taylor.
Taylor, a senior, posted an incredible game in the net, turning away four shots and only allowing one goal in 90 minutes of action.
Maryville outshot their Scot counterparts 20-10 in the game, as they took the USA South win to move to 7-2-1 in conference play. Covenant falls to 4-3-2 in USA South action.
The Scots end their regular season with 13-2-2 mark overall. Maryville will wait until tomorrow in order to find out who they will face, as the Scots will host the first round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 31. First touch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
