Box Score The Maryville College Scots moved to 8-6 within the USA South Athletic Conference after their final regular season matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Maryville posted an 86-62 victory over the Hawks of Huntingdon behind a monstrous 30-point effort by Jaumonee Byrd. The junior post shot 13-of-16 from the floor for the Scots (81.3 percent), while connecting on 4-of-7 free throws. Byrd also posted six rebounds in 27 minutes of action.
Maryville currently is ranked third within the USA South standings going into the tournament next week, as two games are left – N.C. Wesleyan vs. Ferrum and William Peace vs. Greensboro – both of which are scheduled for Sunday.
Maryville posted a 55.4 percent outing as a squad on Saturday evening, knocking down an incredible 31-of-56 shots. The Scots posted a 52.2 percent effort from behind the arc, as Calvin Songster led the way, knocking down 5-of-7 long-range shots.
MC lengthened their lead, while holding the Hawks to a 38.2 percent day – only allowing a 5-of-25 outing from 3-point range. Maryville out-rebounded their USA South counterparts, 44-29, on the afternoon.
Songster followed Byrd's huge outing with 15 points of his own. The freshman added four assts and a steal to his credit on the day. Oscar Butler added nine points to go with five rebounds, as Spencer Shoffner tallied eight points.
Tyler Spicer added seven points off the bench, as Spencer Peake bucketed six. Wesley Murray and Tanner Torres each added three, as Antonio Jackson and Andrew Pentecost had two points. Logan Brewer added a point, while Christian Ford had five assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block.
For Huntingdon, it was all Alex Layson. The guard posted 19 points, while teammates Dantavius Washington and Andre Ashely each added eight. Jerome David had five assists for the Hawks.
Maryville will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 26, as they travel to Averett University for the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament. The Scots' opponent and tipoff time have not yet been announced.
