Box Score The Maryville College Scots pulled out a close USA South win on Wednesday night with a 52-45 victory over Scots of Covenant.
Maryville's Spencer Shoffner led the way, knocking down four treys, as they Orange and Garnet tossed in 29.2 percent of their long range shots. Covenant could only muster a 2-of-21 outing from beyond the arc, for a 9.5 percent outing. The hometown Scots posted seven treys in the contest.
The win – Maryville's second USA South triumph in a row – puts the Scots at 5-4 in the conference, currently holding a tie for fourth place.
MC was able to outrebound Covenant 42-29, but 24 Maryville turnovers hindered the team in a game that saw eight ties and six lead changes.
Shoffner led the way for Maryville, posting 14 points and six rebounds. Jaumonee Byrd also tallied 12 points, while posting seven rebounds and a block.
Calvin Songster had eight points to go along with five rebounds and two assists, while shooting 2-of-5 from beyond the arc. Oscar Butler had six points to go along with a game-leading eight rebounds, while posting three steals and two assists. Logan Brewer and Tanner Torres each posted three points, while Christian Ford, Antonio Jackson and Tyler Spicer bucketed two points.
Covenant had only one player posted double-digit scoring, as Colton McGriff tallied 12 points. The Chattanoogan Scots (6-14, 5-6 USAS) posted a 30.6-percent day, while holding 86.7 percent from the charity stripe.
Maryville moves to 10-10 on the season, 5-4 in the USA South.
Randy Lambert's squad will travel to LaGrange, Ga. for the team's fifth road game in only eight days. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. against the Panthers.
