Monarch's 29-hit attack too much for Scots

Methodist University defeated Maryville College in two five-inning games on Saturday afternoon, as the Monarchs put together a 29-hit attack.

The Scots (7-17, 3-9 USAS) were led by Tiffany Brand, who went 3-for-5 on the day with two RBIs and a run scored for Maryville. Megan Mihaliak was 2-for-5 with a run scored.

Methodist (14-12, 8-6) saw Lindsay Tippett go 5-for-7 with seven RBIs and two runs scored.

The Monarchs struck first in the opening inning. A Lindsay Tippett RBI single and a bunt single by Kelsey Harrington scored two runs. Kristen Bailly singled to second to score Harrington, before a fielder's choice by Allyson Aycock scored Griffin for a 4-0 Methodist lead.

Tiffany Brand gave the Scots some momentum in the bottom of the first with a two-out double to left-center. Kazdyn Cooper slapped a double over the right fielder's head to score Brand for a 4-1 score.

Sarah Stapleton singled to second to start the next inning, before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Tippet used her second RBI single of the day to score Stapleton, as Griffin used a two-out RBI double to score Stapleton. Methodist led 6-1 going to the bottom of the second.

The Monarchs stuck again, as Aycock scored off an RBI fielder's choice by Miller. Heather Williams loaded the bags with a single to left, as Methodist faced only one out. Lexie Randolph threw the strikeout, before a runner's interference ended the threat, the Scots trailing 7-1.

Megan Mihaliak singled down the left field line to start to bottom of the third. Jessica McMahan reached on a fielder's choice, before both runners advanced on a balk. Brand scored Mihaliak with a groundout to short, as the Scots trailed 7-2.

To start the fourth, Griffin drew a walk, before advancing to third on two wild pitches. She scored with an RBI single by Bailey, before a two-RBI single down the left field line scored Andreson and Aycock. Marckow scored on a fielding error to give Methodist an 11-2 win.

The Scots were led by Brand's 2-for-3 day, as she posted a run and an RBI.  Cooper was 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Mihaliak was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Methodist saw Sarah Stapleton lead their 14-hit attack with a 3-for-3 effort, as she scored two runs. Tippett was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Bailey went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Krista Zenter reached on a fielder's choice, before Williams scored her from first with a double to the left-center fence. Tipett slapped a three-run home run to left to give Methodist a 4-0 lead going to the bottom of the third.

Tiffany Brand singled down the left field line to score Burks, who singled and advanced on a bunt single. The Scots trailed 4-1.

In the top of the fourth, Methodist hung XX runs on the board behind bases loaded RBI singles by Aycock, Tippet, Griffin and Bailly. Harrington also added a run with a sacrifice fly to right to score Williams, before Griffin scored on a sacrifice fly by Miller for a 10-1 score.

An RBI double by Williams scored Zetner to give the Monarchs an 11-1 score.

Maryville saw Jennie Burks go 1-for-1 with a run scored, while Brand hit 1-for-2 with the team's only RBI.

Tippett led the Monarchs, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a run scored.

Maryville will host North Carolina Wesleyan on Monday, March 30. The USA South double header is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
