The Maryville College Scots used a 9-7 extra inning victory on Saturday afternoon to split in USA South action against the Ferrum Panthers.
Maryville took the first game of the day, 9-7, before falling in the second game of the double-header, 2-0.
The Scots used a 14-hit attack in the first game of the day, as they added nine RBIs to knock off the Panthers.
Ferrum struck first, capitalizing on a bases-loaded error by the Scots. Amber Coffin scored on the play, before a second error two plays later allowed Danielle Persson to score, as the Panthers led 2-0 in the bottom of the second.
The Scots took advantage of Ferrum miscues as well in the top of the third, as Jessica McMahan used an RBI single to score Melissa Frease for the unearned run. Kazdyn Cooper drew a bases loaded, RBI walk to score McMahan, knotting the game at 2-all.
In the top of the fourth, Caitlyn Hogg found her seventh homer of the season behind a three-run shot to left, scoring Rachel Taylor and Cydnee Morrisette on the play. The home run gave Maryville a 5-2 advantage in the top of the fourth, before Kalyn Jones used a single down the right field line, scoring Megan Mihaliak in the top of the fifth.
Ferrum chipped away, however, as Amanda Roberts used an RBI double to right center to score Heather Mayberry. Kylene Culler scored Roberts with an RBI single up the middle, as the Scots led 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth.
Mihaliak would add an insurance run in the top of the sixth, scoring McMahan behind an infield ground ball. Going to the final inning, Maryville led 7-4.
However, a final inning rally would knot the game and send it to extra innings, as Sidney Clinevell homered to left-center, scoring Marieka Pierce and Callie O'Brien for a 7-7 ball game.
Maryville would ice the game in the top of the eighth, as Mihaliak would use a bunt single RBI to score a run. Cooper would add a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Tiffany Brand from third for the 9-7 final.
Maryville was led by Hogg's 2-for-4 day, as she added three RBIs and a run scored. Mihaliak went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored, thiwl McMahan was 1-for-4 with two run scored and an RBI.
Ferrum saw Coffin go 4-for-4 with a run scored, while Clinevell went 1-for-2 with a run scored and three RBIs.
In the second game of the day, Ferrum used single-run innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth for the 2-0 victory.
Brand went 2-for-3, while Jones and Savannah Cook each went 1-for-2.
For the Panthers (21-11, 14-8 USAS), Persson went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Coffin went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Mika Smith was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Maryville (11-22, 7-15) will travel next to Greensboro College on Sunday for a USA South double-header beginning at 1 p.m.
