Scots use 25-hit attack to split with USA South foe Greensboro

Maryville used a 25-hit attack on Sunday afternoon to split with the Greensboro College Pride in Greensboro, N.C., winning the second game of the day, 11-4.

Maryville fell in the day's first game, 5-4, to the USA South foe.

The Scots' 12th win of the season came behind Caitlyn Hogg's 3-for-5, three-RBI and two-run day, while Lexie Randolph went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Tiffany Brand was 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, while Kalyn Jones went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Maryville struck hard early, scoring six runs in the first inning of the day's second game. Brand used an RBI double, scoring Hogg, before Jones scored Brand on an RBI bunt single. Megan Mihaliak scored on an error, before Randolph added an RBI single to score Jones. Savannah Cook had an RBI double to score Randolph, giving Maryville a 6-0 lead.

Sarah Connolly put the Pride on the board with an RBI double to right center, scoring Madison Crisco for a 6-1 score going to the second inning. Greensboro added two extra runs in the bottom of the third, as Connolly again used an RBI double to score Kali Puckett. Allyson Yeager added an RBI single to right, scoring Rush for a 6-3 Maryville lead.

In the top of the fourth, though, Hogg added a solo homer to start the inning – her eighth of the season – to extend the Scots' lead to 7-3.

Sarah Tompkis' RBI single in the bottom of the sixth chipped away at Maryville's lead, scoring Jackie Nicholson. However, the Scots would pull away for good in the top of the seventh as Randolph and Jennie Burks each tallied RBIs, before Hogg's two-RBI double down the right field line made the final score 11-4.

Greensboro (20-20, 13-11 USAS) saw Connolly lead the way against the Scots (12-23, 8-16). She went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Yeager was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

In the day's first game, Maryville jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Mihaliak had an RBI single to center to score Hogg, before Jones scored Mihaliak behind an error. After the first, the Scots lead 2-0.

Greensboro would knot the game in the bottom of the fifth, as Puckett and Brittainy Rush added RBIs to score Evan Sherer and Puckett.

Brand would give the Scots the lead again, however, in the top of the sixth, slapping a two-RBI single to center field. Cook and Rachel Taylor scored on the play, as Maryville led 4-2.

Nicholson, Tompkins and Alexis Hall would each find RBIs, though, in the bottom of the sixth, taking the win, 5-4.

Brand went 1-for-4 with two RBIs, while Hogg was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Cook was 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Taylor went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Maryville will look next to Tennessee Temple on Tuesday afternoon. The makeup game is slated for 3 p.m. first pitch.
