Box Score The Maryville College Scots Men's Soccer team moved to 3-1 on the season on Saturday night with a 2-1 victory over Wilmington College in Ohio.
Maryville poised a 2-0 lead at the half behind two early goals during the opening round of the Wilmington Kiwanis Classic.
Caleb Lucas had a big night for the Scots, boasting his second and third goal of his Maryville College career. Lucas found the back of the net at the 5:43 mark in the first half off of the assist from Randy Reichenburger. The Scots led 1-0 early.
Lucas found his second goal of the night – this time off the assists from Cody Vankershaever – at 25:41. Maryville took their 2-0 lead to the half.
"It was a good road win," Maryville College Associate Head Soccer Coach Jon Baker said. "We made it tough on ourselves by conceding a second-half goal."
Wilmington would get on the board at 50:39. Benny Spirk found the net past the Scots for the only goal of the match for the Ohio squad.
For the Scots, it was Lucas that tallied eight shots with six shots on goal. Ian Schomer had two shots, both on goal, while Reichenberger had three shots with one on goal.
Wilmington saw Niklas Martennson with four shots and three on goal, while Spirk had three shots, two on goal, with the only goal.
Jon Taylor moved to 3-1 on the year inside the net for the Scots, boasting 90 minutes in the net. Taylor shunned six saves, while only allowing one goal.
Maryville will look to face Berea College in the second round of the Wilmington Kiwanis Classic on Sunday. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
