Scots move past Centre on Palmer, Davies goals

Box Score

The Maryville College men's soccer team advanced to 2-0 on the season following a 2-1 victory over Centre College in the second game of the 2015 Maryville College Invitational.

The Scots took an early 1-0 advantage when Thomas Palmer blasted a free-kick past Colonel keeper Dylan Spencer at the 17:51 mark.

Centre College deposited an equalizer just before the half when Alexander Garuba found Christian Gateskill in front of the net at the 37:28 mark.

Following a 1-1 half, both teams battled for possession with MC keeper Jon Taylor fending off four strong shots on goal to keep MC in the contest.

Freshman George Davies secured the game-winning goal unassisted at the 75:26 mark with a quick left-foot strike past keeper Bailey Spade.

Taylor and his defense continued consistent pressure to secure the victory down the stretch.

Both squads took 17 shots in a very physical game. MC's Taylor recorded six saves for the win in net.

The Colonels fall to 0-2 on the season and will face Covenant College at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Maryville (2-0) will challenge a tough Montclair State squad that defeated Covenant College 6-1 in action earlier in the day. MC will host Montclair State at 12:30 on Sunday.
