Box Score The No. 13 Maryville College women's basketball team pushed their win streak to five following a 91-50 thrashing of Salem College on Tuesday evening in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
MC broke the Spirits with a 45-17 halftime advantage, out rebounding Salem 27-17 while shooting 45-percent from the field. Madison Maples dropped 10 points at the intermission with nine additional Scots tickling the twine before the break.
Maryville's offensive intensity matched their defensive hustle closing out the game hitting 21-of-43 shots for a 48-percent shooting effort, mostly on mid-range and paint attempts. The unselfish Scots dished out 20 assists as a squad while only turning the ball over on seven occasions.
The Scots (13-2) were paced by Maples' 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting. She also led the Scots defensively with a game-high five steals. Mackenzie Puckett went 7-of-12 from the floor for 14 points while dishing out three assists, grabbing three rebounds, and rejecting three Salem shots. A dozen Scots tallied points with Lauren Biliter and Brittany Johnson each tossed in nine. Maryville out rebounded Salem 55-35 with an eight rebound effort from Abby Navarro. Rachel Hawn and Linley Dunn each pulled down seven boards. Maryville's defense forced 23 turnovers and allowed only a 34-percent shooting effort from the Spirit.
Salem (3-14) had a pair of Spirits finish with 17 points. Quntashea Lewis and Sabrina Shepherd combined for a 13-for-30 effort from the floor tallying 34 of the squad's 50 points.
Maryville will return to the court and USA South action when they host Methodist and Greensboro this weekend. MC will host the Monarchs on Friday at 5:30 and the Pride of Greensboro on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
