Box Score The Maryville College men's basketball dropped their fourth consecutive USA South challenge after The Greensboro College Pride defeated the Scots 91-76 on Saturday evening in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
The Pride deposited 50-percent of their shots in the first half (13-for-26) with Simeon Howard dropping a dozen, including a pair of treys. Maryville's shooting woes included an 11-for-28 shooting performance (39-percent) that included a 2-for-12 effort from beyond the arc.
At the break, Greensboro captured the lead 35-28 at the intermission.
Greensboro exploded for 56 second-half points as they increased their shooting efficiency to 60-percent (16-for-27) from the floor and an amazing 60-percent (6-for-10) from long distance. The Pride closed the final period with 16 from Parris Scales, 14 from Donavan Griffith, and 11 from Howard.
Maryville attempted to close the gap with a strong 54-percent shooting effort to close the game. Jay Bowyer tossed in a trio of treys for 16 points while Spencer Shoffner added 15 points after going 5-for-8. Despite scoring 48 points, MC could not recover for the 15-point home defeat.
Greensboro (12-7, 6-2 USA South) had three players post double digit scoring while out rebounding the Scots 40-23. Simeon Howard finished 7-for-13 with five three-pointers for a game-high 23 points. Parris Scales and Donavan Griffith each added 19 points on a collective 11-for-17 shooting effort. Hamilton Hawkins and paced the Pride with five assists while Scales and Howard crashed the boards with eight rebounds each.
Maryville (12-7, 3-5 USA South) relied on Jay Bowyer's game-high 23 points on 60-percent shooting that included four treys. Spencer Shoffner finished with 15 while Joshua Brooks stepped up with a 13 point, three steal performance. Logan Brewer was strong in the post with eight points and a game-high 11-rebounds.
The Scots will look to snap their streak on Wednesday when they travel to Demorest, Georgia to challenge USA South rival Piedmont College. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
