Shoffner's 21 helps snap Scots' six-game loss streak, 74-66

The Maryville College Scots snapped their six-game win streak on Friday night, as they used a 74-66 win over USA South foe Huntingdon College.

The Scots trailed the entire contest until the 7:13 mark, when senior guard Spencer Shoffner knocked down a trey off the assist from Jay Bowyer. Shoffner's 3-pointer game Maryville a 55-54 advantage – one they would not relinquish.

They long ball from Shoffner was one of three from the senior, as he dropped a game-high 21 points on the afternoon. The senior found 17 of his 21 in the second half, when the Scots' offense shined.

Maryville outscored Huntingdon, 44-32, in the second half, while shooting 55.6 percent (15-of-27) from the floor. They posted a 7-of-17 effort (41.2 percent) from long range, while bucketing seven free throws on a 50 percent effort.

For the game, the Scots shot 24-of-60 (40 percent), while knocking down 10 treys on the afternoon. They tallied 16 assists – 11 of which came during the second half – and 35 rebounds.

Shoffner led the Scots (13-9, 4-7 USA South) with 21 points on 6-of-17 shooting. The forward also went 3-of-10 from the from beyond the arc, while sinking 6-of-8 free throws. Shoffner had four rebounds, a pair of steals and a block in the win.

Bowyer had 15 points, to go with a team-high five assists and four rebounds, while Dante Hoppa added 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals off the bench. Emier Bowman had eight points and eight rebounds, while adding four assists and two steals.

Logan Brewer, Joshua Brooks and Tyler Spicer each tallied six points,  while Spicer added six rebounds. Emanuelle Garcia had two points.

For Huntingdon (8-14, 1-10), it was Raheem Berry that had 20 points on 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range. Andre Ashley had a double-double effort for the Hawks with 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, while R.J. Jones added 10 points for Huntingdon.

Maryville will travel to LaGrange College tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 13, as they face off with the Panthers. Tipoff for that contest is set for 6 p.m.
