Scots pick up another big split against Huntigdon, 10-3

The Maryville College Scots softball squad picked up another big in-conference split, taking a 10-3 win over Huntingdon in the day's second game.

Maryville put together 16 hits, scoring 10 runs on the day, as they move to 9-9 on the year and 5-3 in USA South Athletic Conference play.

The Scots have now handed two of the conference's top-ranked squads – Piedmont and Huntingdon – their first in-conference losses of the season. Maryville also toppled No. 10-ranked Berry College, as the squads only loss of the season (13-1).

"We have a ton of talent on this team, and when it all comes together, we are unstoppable," Head Coach Leah Kelly said. "This team has it all – speed, pitching, power and solid defense. Sometimes, we make mistakes – that's part of the game – but these girls make a decision to remain 'unfinished.' We pick ourselves up, learn from our mistakes and move forward."

Jessica McMahan had another huge series, going 5-of-7 on the day, including a 5-for-5 and four-run day in the second game.

Maryville used a five-run sixth inning to hand the Hawks their first loss of the year, as Rachel Taylor found three doubles and five RBIs in the contest.

Taylor followed McMahan's perfect day with a 3-for-5 effort to go with five RBIs and a run scored. Alexus Murray was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Casey Joliff was 1-for-1 with an RBI double and a run scored.

Morgan Corland picked up her third-straight victory, going a complete game. She allowed 10 hits, while only allowing three runs to score. She had one walk and one strikeout, as she evened her record at 3-3.

Huntingdon was led by Daisha Henderson's 3-for-4 effort with a run scored, while Jessica Swindle went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Maryville will have the rest of the weekend off, before they travel to Cumberland University (Tenn.) to face off in a non-conference match-up. First pitch for the double header is slated for noon.
